Ceremonies and Rituals
Native Americans celebrate many different traditions and ceremonies that vary from tribe to tribe. This includes dancing, funerals, and other religious events such as mourning ceremonies. Indians believed that after they died their soul left the body and stayed on earth haunting the living. Many of their celebrations were focused on the dead.
Rituals
Here are Apache girls at the coming of age ritual. Depending on the Tribe, there were many different events. Some ceremonies were based on conquering the difficulties in life. While others were about big milestones such as puberty, marriage, or death. Either way, the Indians took them very seriously and honored whoever or whatever that event was about.
Ceremony Materials
Lots of tribes tend to use different materials during their ceremonies. For example, prayer feathers were often tied to the forehead of the person who had died, and were buried with their important possessions. This was solely to honor them. Other materials were used depending on the ceremony.
